Yup, it’s true, september is going to be a hell of a month here at Lisbon, we already had scheduled one conference (SHiFT, which I’m helping organize), one Barcamp, and now, Damian is comming to Lisbon for a Perl Best Practices Workshop.

I hope I can make it, hearing Damian live isn’t something we can miss, so I’m eager to register and take part of it. . If you’d like to know more or even register yourself, check the workshop page.

Tonight it’s the 4th Lisbon Perl Mongers Tech Meeting, the meeting will take place at log, and as José put it, everyone is invited:
- the entrance is free;
- anyone is invited, wether they’re techies, geeks or not;
- don’t think you’ll find only guru’s there, newbies will be very welcome there;
- show up before 21:20;
- if you happen to be late, just ask the security for the Lisbon Perl Mongers meeting or ask for José Castro from log;
Check the group blog, for more information and do show up! You’ll certainly learn something new!

Skype has just released an “official” preview of its new version with Video, which is a major thing, at least for me, since that a fully compatible mac/pc video conferencing system didn’t exist up until today, and believe me, I’ve tried quite a few of them! What exists don’t actually classify for multi-platform!

Well it’s still a beta, but sure seems great!
Great timing also… It wasn’t a completely new to me, for some weeks now I’ve had access to a non-oficial preview… but as all the betas it had problems… and for the sake of my address book I’ve kept my old version running.

Some days ago, Nuno sent me an email with the link for the Jonas Altberg (aka Basshunter) “Boten Anna”, whatching the video reminded me two things, first, and against all odds, IRC is still one of the most live places on the web and second that I missing going to a techno party…
Check the out the video (subtitles are available in multiple languages):

Recently I’ve came across some websites and projects which have as only purpose to present us in visual terms, information they gather from other websites or news sources. They simply aggregate them and present those information bits in some highly graphical way… today I just noticed Newsmap:
Newsmap is an application that visually reflects the constantly changing landscape of the Google News news aggregator. (…) provides a tool to divide information into quickly recognizable bands which, when presented together, reveal underlying patterns in news reporting across cultures and within news segments in constant change around the globe
Strangely enough, at the beginning seems a messy representation, but the colors and sizes became addictive quite easily.

Plazes is still in beta, but today i just noticed they launched a new website with a whole lot of new features.
For those who might not know plazes yet, Plazes is a geo-reference serviced based on ip, meaning that you don’t need to have a gps for pin-pointing your location on the web, you can just trust on the connection points that you hang to (to be more precise, it uses the mac-address of the router you’re connected to, to save your location at plazes). If the “plaze” is unknown plazes asks you about details on that particular location, otherwise it just saves your locations based on the information others have submitted on that precise location!
Here’s where I am right now:
Rather nice, don’t you think?
